A Buffalo Grove man who police said posted threats of violence on his Facebook page has been arrested.

Michael E. Sullivan, 41, of the 100 block of Morningside Lane, was arrested Saturday at his workplace in Vernon Hills and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, said Vernon Hills police spokeswoman Sharon Joseph.

Joseph said Sullivan posted the threat to his Facebook page from his cell phone.

Joseph quoted Sullivan's post as saying: "Mike Sullivan is again ready to start killing indiscriminately. I'm going to put Vernon Hills on the freakin map." She said he also vaguely referred to not having to post bail if he was caught because of the way he would carry out his threat.

Maria Foster worried when her husband Patrick was laid off from his job as a truck driver and began driving a taxi about two months ago.

Early Saturday she got the call she feared.

Baroness Stern clearly understands the issues surrounding rape. She seems like a pretty reasonable woman in her report on the subject today. And any sane voice on the matter is to be welcomed, given that when it arises all commonsense usually goes out of the window on both sides.

I won't reiterate what I say here on Channel 4's website, but unfortunately I don't think the Stern report has much to do with the problems surrounding this particular crime, even though a lot of what she says is right. And the cynical attitudes I talk about often on this blog are only a symptom of far wider cynicism within society: as a group the police are probably more educated on the subject than the wider public.

The lawyer for developer Calvin Boender, on trial for allegedly bribing former Ald. Isaac "Ike" Carothers, has told the judge that the defense won't call Mayor Richard Daley or any Chicago aldermen to the witness stand.

Boender's lawyer, Robert Sanger, said the defense has decided instead to use transcripts of zoning meetings concerning the Galewood Yards project. Boender is accused of bribing Carothers to win his support for the project. Before the trial began last week, the defense had subpoenaed Daley and a number of current and former aldermen to testify.
